The level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools teaches delegates to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding needed to work with young children constructively including how educational organisations operate and how you could work within a team to deliver high quality education within a school setting. You will understand how to plan and provide support to create a safe environment for young children and young people, you will also become familiar with the delivery of a curriculum within a school setting. This qualification allows candidates to apply their classroom support experience to an academic qualification and become qualified to apply for teaching assistant positions in any school across the UK. Building on your existing experience, you will learn how to be fully responsible for carrying out practical and administrative classroom tasks as well as being fully qualified in pastoral support as and behavioural management.
This course is regulated by Ofqual and accepted by Ofsted.

- Once qualified, you can make the step-up to work in a variety of roles in schools from classroom support to wider pastoral duties and continue to build your career in school.
- The recommended minimum age for this course is 16 years old.
- The Level 3 Award in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools can be used as a pathway to the Level 4 Certificate for Higher Level Teaching Assistants or you can specialise your expertise in supporting students with special educational needs by doing the L3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools.

What are the entry requirements for this course?
- There are no specific entry requirements however candidates should be keen to work in the sector to support teaching and learning in schools
- Candidates must be at least 16 years old and have a minimum of Level 2 in literacy or equivalent. You may be required to complete an initial assessment to ascertain your suitability for this course before you begin.
- To access our world-class virtual learning classrooms you must have access to a secure internet connection and a laptop/PC/tablet using up to date Windows, Apple or Android operating systems.
For those learners who are already working with students covered by DBS (disclosure and barring service) regulations there may be a requirement to undertake a DBS check. You will be informed before you enrol on the course whether this is relevant to you.
Course Specification: Overview
Learners will be taught the roles and responsibilities of a teaching assistant and how to build professional relationships with students and teachers in the classrooms. The L3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools is broken down into eleven main units. Some of these units include:
- Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults.
- Schools as organisations.
- Support assessment for learning.
- Promote children and young people's positive behaviour.
- Support learning activities.
- Understand Child and Young Person Development .
Understand how to Safeguard the Wellbeing of Children and Young People.
How is this course assessed?
Each of the eleven units mentioned previously have internally set and marked assessments that must be completed to pass the course. You are expected to create an assessment portfolio based on your experiences in the classroom. Some of the units are focused on assessing candidates in a work environment.
